Reorder Timing for Q4: Keeping Bamboo Electronics in Stock Through the Holiday Season
For resellers and distributors, the Q4 question is rarely "what should we sell?" — the range is usually settled by September. The question that decides the season is "when does it have to be reordered so the shelf never goes empty?"
Read your own sell-through before you read the calendar
If you ran a small test order earlier in the year, the results are your best forecast. Which models moved at full price, which needed markdown support, and which are still sitting in the back room — that split should drive what you reorder in what depth, more than any seasonal trend piece. If you have not run a sell-through test yet, the method is simple and still worth doing on a small scale before committing to volume.
Schedule backward from the first peak sales date
Holiday demand does not start on the holiday. Gift purchases build for weeks beforehand, and the first real peak is when your stock must already be in place. Take that date, subtract your receiving and restocking time, then transit from the factory, then production time — and the resulting date is when the purchase order needs to be confirmed, not placed. Confirm current production and shipping times with the supplier in writing; assume nothing from previous orders.
Reorder depth: protect the bestsellers, keep the trials small
A common Q4 mistake is spreading the reorder evenly across the range. Bestsellers deserve the depth — running out of the model customers come back for costs more than a slow trial model ever will. New models and unproven colorways stay at trial quantities until they prove themselves.
Ask what could slow the order down
Reorders stall for predictable reasons: artwork changes that reopen packaging approval, carton quantity edits that affect the print run, or a mixed-model order where one new SKU holds the whole shipment for sampling. If your reorder touches packaging at all, resolve the master carton plan early. If you are adding models to an existing relationship, keep the new SKU from gating the shipment of the proven ones.
Plan the shelf, not just the order
While the reorder is in motion, plan the display: which models sit together, what the price ladder looks good-better-best, and how gift-oriented models such as speaker clocks are presented next to everyday organizers. A range that reads clearly on the shelf sells through faster than a larger, flatter one.
What to send this week
Model list, reorder quantities, target in-stock date at your warehouse, and any packaging changes you want included — the same four items that make a first wholesale order easy to quote. With those in hand, a supplier can confirm whether the schedule holds, and tell you now instead of in November if it does not.
